Amid the controversy over the relevant changes for obtaining the Golden Visa, the Portuguese government announced another modification last Tuesday.
From 2024, new Non-Habitual Residents will no longer have access to tax benefits. This measure takes into account the increase in property purchase and rental prices in the country.
The Non-Habitual Resident regime, in force since 2009, provided tax advantages for both foreign residents in Portugal, for a period of ten years, and for Portuguese citizens who had emigrated for more than five years.
During the announcement of the end of these benefits, Portuguese Prime Minister António Costa stated that those who are beneficiaries of this regime can continue to enjoy it until the end of the period for which they are eligible.
